Anna Pavlova, Golders Green And Carpet Cleaning

Posted in by admin on January 27th, 2012

“Her name on Earth was Sarah Smith and she lived at Golders Green…She was one of the great ones.” Thus a character in C.S. Lewiss The Great Divorce praises an ordinary 1940s housewife living in Golders Green, seeing her as a noble and beautiful lady in heaven. This character was depicted as receiving her reward for being a generous and loving woman who treated everyone from the people who came in to deliver her groceries and (presumably) the person who came in to do her Golders Green carpet cleaning (unless she did it herself).
